My son recently started school. He turned two in October and throughout the December holidays I was absolutely petrified about what would happen when our family transitions from my son staying at home with a full time nanny to spending a full day at a nursery school nearby. Well the first month has now passed and I would like to share with other moms what my two year old son has taught me in the in the last month.
Never be afraid of a challenge: School might have been a new experience, and after a few tough mornings my son has a big group of friends. Kinda makes you wonder what you are missing out on if you don't try.
You are never too young (or old) to learn: Within a few weeks my son started to blossom. His vocabulary has grown, his self-confidence is booming and yesterday he surprised me with his own rendition of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, dance moves included. What I took from this is that without new surroundings and new things we do not allow ourselves to grow.
We all get bumped and bruised, but we dust ourselves off and try again: On day three of nursery school my son returned home with a "Today I hurt myself" note from his teacher. Now I don't get handed a letter with an explanation of why certain endeavours fail or deals get lost or how it was rectified. What I did however notice with my son looking very cheeky with his monkey plaster on his knee and a lollipop in his mouth that within a few hours even the most painful experiences also pass. Lesson: Don't be afraid of getting hurt - sometime you learn the best lessons this way.
Thus I have decided to take these lessons in my stride and to be a little bit more courageous this year. Maybe accept a new challenge or try something that I might have deemed risky. Who knows? I might achieve something magical this year.
