I suspect you know those women—moms who show up at drop-off dressed for their morning workout. Is it my imagination or are they all skinny?

Come Friday, when I work from home, that’s me, too—dropping the kids off with a kiss and a hug, then zipping off to a session at the gym before work. But Monday through Thursday, I just don’t have the time (or the energy!) to exercise.

In fact, I had just about given up on the idea of a midweek workout when I volunteered to be guinea pig for a new Working Mother project. For our Family Health issue, we’ve opted to take apart my day (and all my excuses) and create a plan to get my food and fitness back on track, while also helping my family.
What I love about the plan our experts came up with is that it’s all about working within the confines of an incredibly busy life—a life I love, but one that needs some adjustment. One of the biggest changes involves how to work in 5 to 10 minutes of fitness a few times every day. (See “No Excuses!” for all the exercise and nutrition tips.)

These days, if you see me marching while listening to a conference call, you’ll know I’m on my new road to health!
