I was thrilled today when I saw an online article by Katherine Lewis (thanks, Katherine!) in her About.com Working Moms blog that discussed State Street's innovation in Flex Work. Article linked here
After reading the article, I tried to remove myself a bit from it (hard to do, since I was the one interviewed) to think about the important messages it left with the reader. Two words that came to mind instantly - Connection and Collaboration. Instant connection to other employees and the ability to collaborate across geographies has become necessary to remove the potential stigma of the Flex worker. The resources an organization implements to enable true connections become a tool for breaking down perceived and real barriers of flexible work. Once those barriers break down, as I have seen first-hand that, organic collaboration occurs. Being creative and innovative with how we support our mobile workforce (and those who manage that workforce) has to be a focus to keep the momentum going. Do you work on a flexible work arrangement? What are some innovative ways your company (or you) support your employees on FWAs? How have you seen collaboration take shape in your workplace? I would love to hear about it, as would Katherine on About.com. Let's get the discussion going...
