As I tried to settle down and start working it occurred to me that others were in the same predicament. Some of my fellow work-at-home/ stay-at-home moms as well as anyone who has ever come back to work after a long vacation will know what I am talking about. Yes, it's lovely that the kids have gone off to school because we now have all this time available to do all these things we need to do but are we doing them?
This year, for the first time, I am finding it a little more challenging to shift gears. In fact as my kids whine and complain about going to school and all the changes in our schedule, I'm feeling pretty whiny myself. Even though I started getting back on schedule a week ahead of school and talked about how cool first grade would be, I think my kids still feel like the carpet got yanked right from underneath them. I concur. Is it really possible to transition from barely working to cranking at full speed as a Ferrari would going from 0 - 60 in 2.4 sec? Are kids engineered to be able to take a three month break and then dive right back in?
So besides whining, what's the plan. First, take a break, get a little cheese and share it with the kids, that should compliment the whining nicely. Then since I was engineered more like an Audi A6 than a Ferrari Enzo, have a little patience. What after all am I worried about? I know that once I get up to speed, I'm going to cruise. This might also not be the time for tough love. I would like someone to hug me and tell me it's going to be OK and it's completely normal to feel totally discombobulated after being on vacation for three months. I bet you the kids could use a hug too.
