Yep, we aren't 2 full months into the new year and I am already feeling a bit overwhelmed. Hundreds of ideas, exciting things booked on the calendar and my brain doesn't seem to want to stop working. It's easy to feel overwhelmed. Here are a few of my proven tips for overcoming your "overwhelm."
Step One: STOP, take a deep breath (actually take a few deep breaths). Get up, walk around for a few minutes, and get away from any and all noise. In times like these even the soothing sound of my pool's waterfall can really irritate me! Calm down for a few moments.
Step Two: Look at your list, your calendar or whatever it is that is pushing you and your nerves over the edge. Ask yourself "what is the most important item on my list right now?" What is the ONE thing I can do right now that will give me some relief and a sense of knowing I'm moving in the right direction.
Step Three: Take a look at your calendar and list again and ask yourself, "what are two things on my list that I can do without right now?" Can you delegate them to someone else, give them a lower priority, reschedule them or cancel them all together? Be swift with this step-go with your gut!
Step Four: Focus on the tasks you want to accomplish TODAY. Get rid of any other distractions (Facebook, Twitter, email notifications, etc.) and focus on what YOU want to accomplish today.
Finally, tell yourself, "I can can do this, I am fine and everything is going to be OK."
By implementing these steps today you will gain a sense of calm and clarity about what's really important, and you won't be overwhelmed when tomorrow hits!
1-2-3...breathe!
What is the ONE thing you want to accomplish today?
