So, unless you are in a profession where you get summers off too, or have round the clock caretakers/nannies/live in babysitters - you probably dread summer vacations as much as I do. The thing about school? You have a place to take your child to, every day of the week. Well, almost every day. Now its summer - and depending on where you live, Summer Camps can run upwards of $300 per week! And these are for kids that are potty trained.
OK. I'm not happy about it. I do get to ship my little one off to his dad for a few weeks, but for the other 8 weeks of the summer, I have to shell out big bucks for people to teach my kid how to yarn, dig up earthworms, or pay for him to visit FREE musuems. Again, not happy about it. In addition, I have to pack a lunch for said kid and probably by some tie-dyed shirt the camp is requring him to wear.
I do love that he gets to interact with a different group of kids - by interact I mean, throw paint on, roll around on the ground with, and sneak copies of marvel comics on the field trips with. So, while I don't want to take away anybody's excitement, because there is excitement (no homework in the evenings, bbqs, pool time, sleeping in, get away with not ironing)... I still dread the dreaded Summer Vacation - which, coincidentally, for me, started today.
