I'm not a big wine drinker and don't know much about it. And since I'm newly single and living in an apartment, I no longer give big dinner parties. When guests bring wine, we either drink it or it goes in my wine rack to pass along to someone else.
There are potential problems with this. 1) I could accidentally give it to the person who gave it to me, and 2) it could be a lousy bottle of wine. Here are my solutions: 1) Before putting it away put a removable sticker on the bottle with the name of the giver, 2) Before gifting a bottle of wine remove the sticker and do a quick search on the internet for the vineyard, variety and vintage. Voila! Revues and prices come up.
It may take a little time, but you'll avoid bringing the equivalent of a bottle of "two buck chuck" to an elegant dinner party.

Logically speaking,
Superb, what a blog it is!
