I sing with a 12 woman jazz group and we're busy rehearsing for our annual show. One of the "girls," a young newlywed, was diagnosed with breast cancer just over a month ago. Before she started chemo and radiation, she told us she might miss the show and some rehearsals.
But this is an amazing woman.
She started treatment three weeks ago. She hasn't missed a rehearsal and it looks like she's going to perform in the show next week. So far she has kept her hair and, incredibly, her great sense of humor.
And yesterday at rehearsal she gave the rest of us a precious gift.
She asked if we wanted to feel her tumor so we'd know what to look for when doing our own breast self exams. We all did.
Even at this difficult time, she's thinking of others.
