Our First Real Family Vacation (Fingers Crossed!!)

My mother had this great idea to go on a vacation to the Virgin Islands, and decided to take along my husband, and I, and our son, Patrick who is 2.  This is our first real vacation since having a child.  We have visited our parents numerous times before but the flights to each are only 2 hours at most.  Those short plane rides have been OK, some better than others.  My son has been on planes with us since he was an infant.  My husband is active duty military and before I went back to work if he was gone for a while I would take the baby and go visit my mom, which is an hour and a half flight.  This flight will be substantially longer; it is 5 hours!  I am sure it will be fine once I can turn on the DVD player plus I am bringing books, snacks, and small toys.  It’s the time that they announce, “Please shut off all electronic devices,” that I am worried about, because we usually start a movie in the terminal.

The other funny thing is we are going to try to buckle down and potty train Patrick while we are on vacation.  I know it sounds crazy, but we are going to be in a condo not a wildly populated resort area so I figured if he pees in his bathing suit or shorts in the sand it’s not a big deal.  I mean while we are in the house I will absolutely clean it up and I am bringing his waterproof sheet to sleep on an pull ups for the night but I figured during the day the beach would be an easy place to practice not wearing a diaper.

Wish me luck! Pics to come…
