Our “No Excuses” feature is taking on a life of its own and while I’m sincerely glad for its success, I’ve got to say that it is still a bit jarring to have people follow my journey to personal health (i.e. weight loss) so closely!
Water Cooler
I’ve had just about enough of all the drama in my life. Not to steal too much from my girl Mary J, but The BadAssMama is here to tell you that I refuse to let the expectations, limitations and generalized stereotypes of other people intrude upon my life for one more second.
Let me explain.
I’m feeling good this week. I had some time off and while I really wasn’t great when it came to following the new eating plan fully, I did keep many of the new strategies in mind:
I’m making sure to plan ahead for my meals (especially lunch and the mid-afternoon snack).

By now, you have probably engaged in social media, water cooler or mom’s group talk about Marissa Mayer, CEO of Yahoo, and her infamous “no working from home” edict to her employees. I have watched this debate and media coverage from the sidelines over the last couple of weeks and now want to share my two cents on how I lead.
The eating has been going pretty well. I've started listening to The Beck Diet Solution on my iPhone and I'm already start to think differently about why stress triggers my personal stuff-my-face reflex. You're supported to do each step, one at a time, before moving on to the next.
Losing weight is a decision we make. Being in the right mindset is the most important thing. Most people know basically what they need to do in order to lose weight. But being in the right mindset to stick with it day after day is sometimes the area that needs more work versus coming up with the right meal plan.

“I’ve decided not to go to college.”
For those of you with high school age children, how do you respond to that? What goes through your mind?
When I heard it from my daughter last week, I felt…anxious. What do you mean you don’t want to go to college?? We have told her for many years now-as do most parents-that we will support her and be proud of any career she chooses as long as she is passionate about it and as long as she is willing to work tremendously hard to do it well. Whatever “it” was.
Oy.
I’ve had quite the week. Even though much of staff was out of the office at an event of ours – meaning it should’ve have been a quiet week – my calendar was still incredibly crowded.
Which means that I really had to put Elizabeth’s words into practice – and that I need to hit the reroute button on my GPS. Reroute! Reroute!
