There was a tiny girl with spray-painted purple hair leaping into the air on a bungee jump at a small town fair periodically squealing, “This is the best day ever!”
My 13-year-old daughter, just prior to that, had noted how bored she was, waiting for her brother’s turn at the bungee leaping, sometimes furiously texting friends on her phone, detaching as best as she could from our “family day.”

Tomorrow my daughter, Sloan McKenna will be 4 weeks old. I made it through the horrible pregnancy and am now a mother of two! Where did the last 4 weeks go? She came 2 weeks early. She had been trying to get out for 2 weeks prior to that, so only 2 weeks early isn't so bad.
