There was a tiny girl with spray-painted purple hair leaping into the air on a bungee jump at a small town fair periodically squealing, “This is the best day ever!”

My 13-year-old daughter, just prior to that, had noted how bored she was, waiting for her brother’s turn at the bungee leaping, sometimes furiously texting friends on her phone, detaching as best as she could from our “family day.”

 

I love back-to-school season. Always have. And as my boys prepare to start "big boy" school, I am abuzz with excitement for the great memories and new adventures that await.

It's that time of year again. The seven day stretch of time that I attempt to shut off my cell phone, stop checking email, and let my backup handle my clients' immediate needs. Theoretically I should be looking forward to this time with blisssful anticipation. In practice I become a a raving lunatic.

Personally, I'm getting pretty sick of the whole "Can women have it all" debate.

I wish people would stop telling women what they can and can't have...  From the sound of it, Ann-Marie Slaughter did exactly what she wanted, needed or was driven to do, in her story; "Why Women Still Can't Have It All." We live is a world of customization and have been saying for decades one size doesn't fit all.

Tomorrow my daughter, Sloan McKenna will be 4 weeks old.  I made it through the horrible pregnancy and am now a mother of two!  Where did the last 4 weeks go?  She came 2 weeks early.  She had been trying to get out for 2 weeks prior to that, so only 2 weeks early isn't so bad.
