I am so proud that once again Lindquist & Vennum has earned a place on the 2013 Working Mother & Flex-Time Lawyers “Best Law Firms for Women” list. Last week at our firm’s Women’s Initiative luncheon, one of my partners was recognized for being one of the Top 50 Women Attorneys in Minnesota. I received recognition for my 40th (!) anniversary of practice.

The dynamics of the traditional family have changed over the last few decades. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), as of 2010, couples in which only the husband worked represented a mere 19% of married-couple families. Additionally, based on the latest BLS American Time Use Survey , women are spending more time working than we are performing household duties.

Last weekend, my sister needed all her wisdom teeth taken out and this week Courtney lost both of her front teeth. In between all the blood, tears, and laughs there were some interesting leadership lessons inspired by the tooth fairy.

As if returning to work isn't hard enough, imagine returning to work and having a BAD manager.  That just makes the adjustment all the more difficult.

Marcia Clark’s latest book, Killer Ambition, is an informative novel about the duties of a Los Angeles prosecutor, specifically one that works in the Special Trials Unit.  This book intertwines investigative work with courtroom drama.  Clark seems to know something about high profile crimes and trials since people should remember her as the lead prosecutor on the O.J. Simpson case.

Recently I heard a quote that got right to the heart of conflict and how to resolve it.  I’m paraphrasing, but it was along the lines of “conflict does not rise out of a clash of good and bad, it rises out of a clash of good and good.”  In other words, each conflicting party always believes their position is good and right, putting to rest the notion of “good vs.
