As the Youngest Leaves the Nest

As my youngest prepares to move into an apartment and I am going through the old files from years of school work, holidays and family vacations I am overwhelmed by how quickly the time has passed. I love the memories of my early years of motherhood, the sweet smell of my babies when they were new; their toddler years with chubby, sticky hands and wonderful, miniature voices.

Making “Good Enough” GOOD When Accepting the Trade-Offs between Motherhood and Career

I recently celebrated my 20th wedding anniversary.  I wanted to surprise my husband with a post to my personal blog honoring his amazing support of my career throughout the years.  But I also had a large operational plan to deliver to senior management that same day.

I recall taking algebra in 7th grade and thinking to myself, “this is ridiculous; I am going to stay at home and raise a family, why in the world do I need this?” But the 70's moved along and I moved along with it; by the time I graduated from high school I knew that I would have a career as well as a family.  I am not sure how it happened. If I look back and try to track down the exact moment that I tipped from happy homemaker to a career path and I just can't find it.

Gloria Steinem Inspires the Next Generation

With much anticipation, I curled up with my husband on the couch to watch HBO’s Gloria: In Her Own Words. I was thrilled to have my little sister, who has just completed her first year of college, join us, and I was excited to have my 5-year-old son experience it as well before I saw the nudity warning and decided a good mother would screen it first.

Of STEM and SoNYC: connecting underrepresented groups with science

Last week the United States government passed legislation – with only a few hours to spare - that would help prevent our country from going into default.  However, despite these measures, America was not able to salvage our AAA credit rating.  So, as our markets keep spiraling into the great unknown that
