Verizon Communications’ Future Moms maternity management program offers its employees the services of a registered nurse and an obstetrics specialist, who can provide advice on everything from prenatal health to premature labor and baby care.

Taking an out-of-the-box approach to work makes life operate more smoothly for moms at this broadband and communications company. Many conduct meetings via videoconference, work from satellite offices near home or pull night shifts to spend more days with their kids. Some reduce their hours for a bit to complete specific assignments and then return to a full-time schedule (with no detriment to their careers). Getting fit can be surprisingly easy, too, as it costs just $15 per month to consult with nutritionists, health coaches or personal trainers through the company’s 44 on-site health and wellness centers. “Since joining, I have achieved goals I never thought possible,” says IT manager Laura Poor, a mom of two. “I am healthier than I have ever been.”
