When you love what you do as much as Diana Zaccardi-Yekta does, it’s hard not to share it, so she does. As the West Area vice president of marketing for Verizon Wireless, Diana has a demanding career and schedule, but still finds the time to mentor employees as a way of giving back.
Diana views mentoring as a commitment and invests time in each individual she mentors. She began her career in Verizon retail and has worked in, or led, every function in marketing, so she has a wealth of knowledge and business understanding to share with others.
Because of her visibility and openness, employees from all channels seek her guidance. The number of requests would overwhelm others, but Diana makes time for anyone seeking her advice on their careers and on being a working mother.
Having had good mentors, Diana knows the value of sharing honest feedback and celebrating successes. Her mentees and each employee promoted within her organization receive a copy of Dr. Seuss’ Oh, the Places You'll Go as well as a hand-written note.
Despite her many demanding roles and frequent travel, Diana is committed to her family and finds creative ways to stay connected using her company’s technology.
While travelling, she reads to her son Zachary every night by mobile videoconference or phone call. Her son and daughter Sabrina have visited the office and know whom she works with and why her work is important. In addition, she finds time to volunteer at her children’s school, attend school functions and lead her work group in supporting Laura’s House, a local shelter for abused women.
Diana is a strong role model to all those around her, but most especially to her son and daughter, her youngest mentees yet!
