Giving employees a strong career foundation can increase their odds of achievement later in life. With that in mind, this broadband and communications company introduced five new leadership development programs for entry-level workers in 2011, aimed at solidifying their knowledge of engineering, finance, human resources, IT and marketing. Multicultural women are 23% of all current program participants (up from 13%), and the total number of women has recently doubled. To complement its existing management development initiatives, the company also launched Foundations for Effective Leadership, a series of one-day sessions that encourage emerging female managers to clarify their aspirations and map out their paths, and Expanding Leadership Capabilities, multiple two-day programs (plus mentoring) that help female middle managers better network and strategize. A six-month workshop, Building Executive Talent, shows director-level women how to eliminate barriers to advancement and focus on traits that drive success.
