PNC Financial Services Group
To help employees cope with last summer’s $4-per-gallon gas prices, PNC Financial Services Group launched a ride-share database; it’s been used by some 2,000 workers.
When author Cathy Greenberg, PhD, was researching her new book, What Happy Working Mothers Know, she turned to women at this financial services firm for their secrets to work/life balance. Their happy reputation owes a lot to the firm’s flexibility: 95% of employees here adjusted their hours last year, while 60% compressed them or worked off-site. Parents rejoiced when they gained 15 days of dependent backup care last year at centers all over the country for just $20 per day; for $4 per hour, caregivers go directly to their homes. Employees working at the Pittsburgh headquarters and the Philadelphia office can drop kids ages 6 weeks to 12 years at on-site centers and pay just $6 each day. The addition of a fully paid week of parental leave for all employees gives new fathers a boost as well.
