Moffitt Cancer Center
Going back to work after maternity leave is tough, but this cancer research and treatment center softens the blow by allowing primary caregivers to phase back into their jobs for up to four weeks, which many do by reducing hours, compressing schedules or telecommuting. Online reservations for corporate lactation rooms, an on-site child care center and 20 days of subsidized backup care also facilitate a smooth reentry. They certainly encouraged former nurse Vicki Caraway, who used the system’s child care, flexible schedules and annual tuition aid (worth up to $5,000) to earn her bachelor’s degree and MBA and score four promotions while raising two kids. “I have never had to look outside of the organization to advance,” she says. As the current director of ambulatory nursing and clinic systems and support, she mentors other rising stars.
