Goldman Sachs
In March 2012, this bank introduced its eight-month Emerging Leaders Program, which will annually help 25 high-potential, multicultural vice presidents advance by giving them greater visibility within the organization, increasing their access to senior leadership and offering executive coaching to help them forge stronger relationships with colleagues. (In the inaugural class alone, 64% of participants were female.) To shed light on cultural differences in workplace behaviors, the bank provides courses such as Voices from Asia, which has engaged 657 managing directors and vice presidents since 2011 (92% say it has helped them better understand their employees’ personal management and communication styles). The bank also has a partnership with Spelman College through which diverse female students take part in a two-year leadership and business training program, and are mentored and coached by company employees.
