Freddie Mac
This secondary mortgage lender deserves praise for its serious attempts to attract and retain multicultural workers, who so far comprise 63% of the year’s hires (up from 55% in 2012). New diversity and inclusion plans are being instituted across the company, emphasizing the advancement of women and people of color as an official priority; in an important realignment, Chief Diversity Officer Dwight Robinson now reports directly to the CEO, providing progress reports on initiatives that increase employees’ career options and strengthen workforce demographics. While 29% of the high-potential female directors in the company’s Women’s Cohort development program have diverse backgrounds, management just debuted a similar offering solely for Hispanic employees.
