Freddie Mac
Fulfilling family obligations got a little easier after this secondary mortgage lender launched a formal flexible work arrangement policy in 2011. In addition to making flextime and compressed schedules official, it allowed workers to telecommute up to 40% of each week—and more than half now do so. In a recent employee survey, 82% of those who used flexibility said it had made them more satisfied and productive at work. That’s good news since women are moving up here, scoring 49% of all promotions and earning 45% more positions at the manager level and above than they did just a year ago. Tuition aid worth up to $5,250 annually helps them succeed, as do a free on-site master’s degree in finance, offered through American University, and a free master’s in technology management, taught at Georgetown.
