Deloitte
This professional services firm has long endorsed the idea that employees’ careers can be tailored to accommodate changes in their personal lives. To support these aims, its Women’s Initiative Network has just worked with 30 managers and senior managers on a new program that brings team leaders and employees together to decide what scheduling arrangements best meet everyone’s needs. Employees might telecommute on Fridays to avoid weekend traffic, for instance, or flex some of their workdays to volunteer, or compress their schedules to take a day off. Workers aren’t judged on the number of hours they are present on key projects but on the percentage of their job hours that emphasize high-value work—an approach that supports flexibility.
