Cornell University
Imagine having your own personal dependent care consultant. That’s the job of this university’s Eileen McCoy Whang, who works with employees to examine their day care options, find help for kids with special needs, make out-of-town child care arrangements and facilitate in-home elder care assessments—all on the company’s dime. She fills parents in on the university’s near-site nursery, on-site child care center and child care subsidy ($5,000 annually) and can detail the merits of various area summer camps. She can even tell employees how to obtain a $5,000 adoption benefit or direct them to on-site lactation spaces, breastfeeding classes and workshops on caring for aging relatives. a dedicated Family Helper website lists local baby-sitters, piano teachers, fitness trainers and more.
