Charlotte B. McLaughlin, PNC Financial Services Group
Fifteen years ago, Charlotte McLaughlin was recruited to the PNC Financial Services Group to create the sales areas of the derivatives and foreign exchange groups. Today, she is president and chief executive officer of PNC Capital Markets, responsible for all aspects of the business, including product strategy, sales, risk management and financial accountability. In a competitive and regulated environment, Charlotte enhanced business processes and outcomes. She is a leading capital-markets expert and has been named one of the Most 25 Powerful Women in Banking for the past five years. Her success was motivated by the experience of having children. “Having children inspired me to work harder and smarter, so I could spend more time with my family,” Charlotte says, referring to her three children Allison, Richard and Mary.
The Capital Markets Group has posted strong performance: as of first quarter 2012, total revenues across capital market product lines grew 25 percent over the same time period in 2011. To sustain this growth, Charlotte launched a talent management program to train and develop emerging employees. As a member of PNC’s management committee, Charlotte leads a subcommittee on diversity and inclusion and has helped to expand PNC’s employee business resources groups.
Charlotte has had numerous achievements in her career, but the moments spent with her children are her proudest. “I am blessed that my children are all very bright and possess a desire to make a difference.” Allison volunteers her time to Girls on the Run; Richard volunteers with the Global Medical Brigades in Honduras and Ghana; and Mary volunteered at an orphanage in Cambodia. McLaughlin encourages her children to do their best. “I tell them to always do what’s right, try new things, seek new experiences, meet new people and never stop learning.”
