Catherine Moy, BDO USA
“Experienced people in every profession owe it to the next generation to provide stewardship and a path forward through coaching and mentoring—it’s really our obligation.” This is how Cathy Moy, BDO USA’s Boston assurance office business line leader, describes her commitment to mentoring.
In her role Cathy leads by example, demonstrating what it takes to be a strong leader and an effective contributor to the firm. She is involved in key BDO initiatives, including the Women’s Initiative and BDO Flex, and is a prime example of someone who actively uses flexibility to manage the demands of work and home. As an active mother of three in a highly demanding job, Cathy dedicates herself not only to her clients but to the growth and needs of those she works with. She does this and more—making it all look effortless.
Cathy is known by her colleagues and direct reports as someone who is extremely approachable, with a consistent open door policy. She is receptive to new ideas and welcomes suggestions for improvement. She is someone who believes in helping others grow through coaching, delegation and involvement.
“I always look to her as a mentor,” says Nicole Cuneen, who works closely with Cathy. “Whether it’s something to do with work or related to work life matters, I turn to her. Also, as a working mother myself, it’s really helpful to have a leader who’s a working mother. Seeing that she can go to her kids’ sports games and work full time—she’s a great role model.”
But beyond her active mentoring and involvement in the firm’s key initiatives, Cathy’s approachable demeanor, sense of humor, candor and wit make her a pleasure to work with. This working mother is truly an inspiration to all.
