What We Love

To encourage its employees to use flexible schedules, this accounting and consulting firm has formalized the request process, made sure nearly everyone has laptops that enable remote work and instituted flex training for all. Its chief financial officer has also explained to business leaders that allowing people to use alternative arrangements will not hurt their bottom line. It’s paid off: In 2010, 99% of employees were able to adjust their hours, and 85% worked off-site at some point. Pregnant women may take 15 partially paid weeks off to give birth; dads and adoptive parents with primary-care responsibilities earn nine fully paid weeks off (secondary caregivers get two). Parents can tap ten days of subsidized backup care annually, which also enhances their flexibility.
