Baptist Health South Florida
$64,000 in college scholarships is available to the children of Baptist Health South Florida employees.
In the whirlwind of activity that surrounds its five hospitals and 15 medical centers, this Southern health-care network tries to give its working parents what they need to do their jobs effectively at work—and at home. Hospital doctors and nurses trade shifts on a dime, so the company offers three on-site child-care centers to look after their infants and preschoolers, including one at the Coral Gables, FL, headquarters, which just introduced weekend hours. Should natural disasters or power outages cause school closings, center providers will take up the slack and keep kids of all ages occupied until the crisis passes. And when employees need emergency backup for a child or adult in their care (even unrelated ones), they can request coverage at any of 32 local centers for $2 per hour or at-home help for just $4 per hour. From July 2007 to December 2008, this benefit saved staffers $100,000.
