AstraZeneca
Employees with expanding families appreciate this pharmaceutical company’s support for flexible schedules. In 2011, 66% of the workforce was able to adjust their hours, while 81% engaged in telecommuting at some point. A growing number of its workers also trade shifts, job-share or compress their weeks. If employees become pregnant, or decide to adopt or foster a child, they are eligible for as much as a year of job-guaranteed time off, with up to eight fully paid weeks of maternity leave and up to six paid weeks off for other primary caregivers, plus $5,000 in adoption aid. All new mothers and fathers also get another five fully paid days of parental leave, which makes bonding with little ones even easier. At headquarters, parents who work at least 37.5 hours per week earn a half day off every Friday throughout the year.
