Senior women actively mentor rising female attorneys at this law firm, inviting them to sit in on high-level client pitch meetings, exchange ideas at networking luncheons and conferences, and take part in gatherings at partners’ homes. There’s been an increase in career coaching at the firm since the launch of its leadership development initiative for women five years ago. Women with young children appreciate a formal policy that allows them to reduce their hours without penalty; many also negotiate customized work arrangements and extended leaves. If they need help looking after their kids, they can access the firm’s backup care program, using in-home providers ($4 per hour) or local centers ($15 per child, per day).
