What We Love

Anne Lee joined Covington & Burling in 2008 after clerking for the Honorable Juan R. Torruella, U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. Since joining the firm as an associate practicing in the areas of litigation and antitrust, Anne has made significant strides in both her professional and family life.

On November 11, 2010, Anne and her husband Fred Turner, an attorney at the Department of Justice (DOJ), welcomed their first child, Nina Lee-Turner. Balancing life at a big law firm with a young child has its challenges, but Anne commends Covington’s work life balance policies for helping her adjust. In addition to taking advantage of Covington’s 18-week maternity leave to stay at home with Nina for an extended period of time, Anne enrolled Nina in Covington Kids, the firm’s state-of-the-art day care facility, located one block from the Covington D.C. office. Knowing that Nina was so close and in such good hands helped Anne transition back to working full time. Anne also praises the support of several partners at the firm who have allowed her the flexibility to adjust her schedule when mother duties called; championed her efforts to strike the right balance between family and work; and provided thoughtful advice for facing these new challenges.

During her time at Covington, Anne has played key roles in various significant cases, establishing herself as a highly regarded lawyer at the firm, particularly in the antitrust practice, which is led by two recent former heads of the DOJ Antitrust Division. She has also worked on pro bono matters, including first-chairing a criminal jury trial and securing a judgment of acquittal for her client; arguing an appeal in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit; and being part of a Covington team that successfully represented the Campaign for All D.C. Families, an umbrella organization of more than 20 national and local civil rights groups, in support of Washington, D.C., same-sex marriage legislation. Anne, Fred and Nina reside in Bethesda, Maryland.
