American Express’ 11 diversity councils promote flexible work options and support recruiting and advancing multicultural women in global markets.
What We Love

With 22 global chapters, the women’s interest network at this financial services company seeks to provide multicultural female employees in every corner of the world with the career opportunities and guidance they need to achieve professional success. Senior executive women get three affinity groups of their own and are supported by the initiative women in the Pipeline and at the top, which aims to eradicate barriers to the advancement of female employees by promoting sponsorship, key networking opportunities and the importance of gender intelligence coaching; the latter explores the different ways men and women communicate, negotiate and resolve problems. Keeping their cause top of mind was the company’s inaugural global women’s conference, held in New York City last September, to which female talent thronged. If they are considered for leadership roles, multicultural women get the chance to meet privately with the company’s power players and find what really drives the business—and what it takes to be promoted.
