Twenty-five years ago, Working Mother made a bold decision to launch our first Best Companies initiative. The magazine was six years old, covering the immense influx of women into the workforce at the exact moment that American businesses were trying to reinvent themselves to survive yet more economic turmoil. That’s when we challenged companies to address the unique needs of working mothers. Today, we celebrate our winners’ continued commitment to their employees through an ever-increasing array of family-friendly benefits.
The new class of Working Mother 100 Best Companies sets the bar higher than ever before, each one offering a menu of benefits including formal and informal flexibility–with flextime, telecommuting and temporary part-time work options, to name only a few.
Showing just how well these companies continue to respond to the needs of working mothers at all stages of their lives, all winners also provide private lactation rooms as well as help finding elder-care services. We congratulate two companies that have been on our list from the beginning: IBM and Johnson & Johnson. As we celebrate the silver anniversary of the Working Mother 100 Best Companies, we look forward to another 25 years of celebrating businesses that give working moms the benefits they need to make their careers and family lives work.
