Basic Skin Care Tips

Posted on February 10, 2010

Skin care is a multi-billion dollar industry for a reason:  most people prefer to have healthy, shiny skin as opposed to having dry, flaky, or acne-prone skin.  Your skin is the outtermost part of your body, and it's often something that people are quick to judge your overall personal hygiene on.  While there are a number of skin care treaments out there aimed at helping people keep their skin smooth and healhty, there are many things that can be done outside of skin care treatments that have a healthy effect on the skin's overall tone.

For starters, it's important to have a healthy, balanced diet.  Diet is one of the biggest factors in the overall success of the skin.  Having a healthy diet means consuming antioxidants as well as staying away from grease. If you don't know which foods contain antioxidants, here is a short list you can take mental note of:  nuts, berries, and fruits. Of course, resveratrol is one of the most advanced antioxidants one can consume.  It's found in red grapes and wine, and is discussed often on talk shows daily for it's anti-aging properties.

Even more important is the amount of water you consume.  Water is the key to the bodies engine - it acts as fuel to both hydrate the body and keep the skin moisturized.  Try to drink at least two quarts of water per day and you will see dramatic improvement in your skin's tone, texture, as well as removal of dead skin cells.  Water helps the skin remove dead skin cells, much like a product designed to exfoliate the skin will do as well.

Another thing you can do is quite simple:  take short showers with lukewarm water.  Hot water can dry out your skin if you take long, hot showers on a constant basis.  Also, when you dry off, try to pat your skin down with a towel, rather than roughly rub it back and forth in an effort to dry the skin.  You want to avoid any abrasions or activities that will essentially do more damage than good, and it's quite simple to do.

Some basic skin care products I suggest you incorporate into your daily skin care routine include a daily body moisturizer, an eye cream, and if you are looking to prevent wrinkles or hide wrinkles that you already have, an anti wrinkle solution is always a good product to use.

These small additions to your daily routine will reap rewards for your skin.  A daily moisturizer will help your skin tone stay shiny as well as keep it moisturized and strong.  This increases the shine and glow your skin will emit, and also will help you prevent acne or other skin irritations.  Eye creams are very important for those of you who experience the normal symptoms of aging, such as eye bags, puffiness, and those nasty dark circles.  An eye cream or serum, depending on what you choose to use, is a great product that can work both instantly and therapeutically. I  highly suggest using one to freshen up the eyes, especially if you are age 18 or older.

Those are some basic skin care tips you can incorporate into your regimen to keep your skin looking it's best all year round.
