I’m slowly recovering from my second hernia surgery in nine months. I’m certainly feeling better than I did three weeks ago, but I’m far from back to normal. I’m the first to admit my schedule is full, but how full is it compared to the rest of you ? Probably no better or no worse. I am so tired, I can’t keep up. Well meaning friends encourage me to take it easy, to slow down. That sounds great ! I would love to take it easy, to slow down. But let me ask you this. Three weeks post procedure, how is that possible ? I had nine beautiful, rest filled days post surgery. I spent a couple of blissful days in the hospital loaded with pain medication. I didn’t touch the phone or the television in the room. I slept, ate ice chips, sipped chicken broth and chatted with my very pleasant nurses. When I returned home my incredible mom and dad were moved in and on duty. They stayed for nine days. That’s an awfully long time for them to prepare meals, drive kids and make lunches, allowing my husband to keep his schedule and me to stay in bed. But all good things must come to an end. So now I am struggling to take the advice of my well meaning friends and my doctor, to slow down. Does anyone know how to slow down ?
