Balance = Crazy

Posted on November 04, 2010

In this blog I explore the concept of "balance" in a working mothers' life.  Today is about me.

I was accepted to a three-day, amazing, generous FREE program given by Seth Godin called the FeMBA (or mini-MBA for Female Entrepreneurs!).  I was surrounded by phenomenal women, all working on their dreams and their passions to make an impact on this world (follow me on twitter @beccalynn) to see each of their businesses featured this week!).  We have so much in common...except one thing:

I and one other woman were the only ones with young children.  Everyone else either didn't have children or their children were high-school aged or over.

I just kept thinking to myself...am I crazy to be doing this right now?  Should I be doing something less taxing so that I can be saner?  Be more "balanced"?

No.  NO.  No.  I am not crazy.  And I probably have more "balance" in my life than most!  I love my work, I love my kids.  I love every minute…and it's perfectly unbalanced.

Sometimes it's a lot, yes.  This week was maybe one of the craziest between the workshop, my son's birthday, 10 year anniversary with my husband and 2 week a vacation next week.  I was up last night making goody bags and frosting cupcakes until 1AM.  Oh, and the request for three different apples for my son's class almost put me over.  But who wants perfect balance?  What fun is that?  I get to decide, every day, where to focus my time.  Sometimes that's making cupcakes, and sometimes it's promoting my business, but it's my form of balance and it works for me.  What do I think is crazy?  Giving up any part of your day or your precious time here on Earth because you think you should.  That's what I call imbalance.
