I am so thrilled to launch the Working Mother 100 Best Companies for 2009 today. This is the 24th year of our list, and I am proud to say that I remember when we launched it in 1986. We wanted CEOs to pay attention to the urgent needs of working mother—the need for paid maternity leave, quality child care, flexibility in their work schedules and programs to support their advancement. Twenty four years later we have achieved so much, with 100 Companies providing role modeling and best practices that ALL companies can follow. The progress has been real, and committed companies have devoted time, energy and money to support working moms in their quest to be great moms and have meaningful careers.
