Always Learning

Posted on April 01, 2009

I attended Women in Business panel the other night at a local community college. The panel featured six businesswomen, from entrepreneurs to Human Resource Directors, all there to impart their wisdom to the students. After the list of questions on the line of where they found inspiration, how they got to where they are now, etc., I realized this was not my crowd. I already have a business, but hoped to learn from these women who went before me and were more established. Why would I attend a panel aimed at community college students?

The answer is simple. There is always something to be learned even if you think you know everything. The smart person knows there is always something new to learn and that they were NEVER know everything. Being open to new ideas, even if you could probably sit on the panel yourself, is how you succeed. And when I made my way to the panelists after the seminar, we chatted, exchanged cards, and I found a couple of new leads for clients.

If I had stayed home, I would never have met these women. Who knows what business they will send my way or what I can send their way, but it would have been zero business had I not put myself out there.
