Congress and Childhood Cancer: A Mother's Fight

When President Nixon declared war on cancer, I was a college student planning my future. Cancer was the furthest thing from my mind.  It was 1971 and the President signed the National Cancer Act into law, declaring, “I hope in the years ahead we will look back on this action today as the most significant action taken during my Administration.” 

 I never would have imagined that 25 years later, I would bear witness to my own 8-year-old daughter’s battle against cancer.

If you attended this year’s NALC Conference, run by Diversity Best Practices,  you’d undoubtedly agree that Social Media is bold and daring and here to stay as evidenced by the integration of tools like Twitter and Flip Cameras to engage the 400+ attendees.  In addition, conference keynote speaker Carlos Dominguez, SVP at Cisco, drove home the message that we cannot be idle and we need to be in the space.  Further supporting the hot trend and the need for higher education in this area, the pre-conference workshop on Social Media was sold out.

A 2010 report released by The Conference Board says that American employees are increasingly unhappy—which they say is “a long-term trend that should be a red flag to employers.”  But it is also a wake-up call for employees who are experiencing increased workloads, ramped up stress and a lack of purpose?
Addressing this issue starts with two things: uncovering the lies you may be telling yourself keeping you in a job you despise and identifying the truths that will free you from anguish that is spilling over into everything else in your life.
