Women Supporting Women?
Junior women often have high hopes that senior women will inspire and sponsor them but that is not always the case. Tensions among some women are real and often exacerbated by a generational and/or racial divide.
At this session, we will explore the unique strains and communication challenges that arise among some women and how to find common ground. We will delve into the scarcity effect and how some women are afraid to support other women for fear they will replace themselves. We will uncover the difficulties women have in aligning themselves with those who have often made deeply personal and different choices. Yet we will also be inspired by examples of women who have been exemplary, not only as role models but also as champions of other women. Attendees will leave the program with a more informed understanding and respect for generational and racial differences and commonalities. They will also gain tools to improve communication and teambuilding across gender, racial and generational lines.

Keynote & Conversation: Strategies for Transforming Stress into Resilience
Change has psychological consequences. Lawyers are more at risk for the worst of these consequences for some very fundamental reasons. Fortunately, science has provided powerful solutions that allow us to teach lawyers strategies for mental toughness and psychological resilience.
Our featured speaker, Dr. Larry Richard, will share the tools that can inoculate lawyers against future stresses and adversities, repair past impacts, and bring out the best in us as lawyers and as people. Psychologically resilient lawyers are more open-minded, accepting of differences, and connected and supportive in their relationships. Such attributes can play a large role in improving both the performance and satisfaction of lawyers. These benefits can also help to build a cadre of male lawyers who are allies in firms’ efforts to retain and promote women lawyers.
