You want the best for your little one, but serving up truly healthy food might seem tricky. It’s easier than you think with tips from Organically Raised.
Au Naturel
Choosing organic ingredients (food raised without pesticides or synthetic fertilizers) may demand more thought, time and commitment. But isn’t it worth protecting your child from potential disease? Plus, your baby will be rewarded with more taste and increased vitality and well-being.
Hip Hip Purée
Raw meals don’t require any cooking, are easy to travel with and are a tasty introduction to solids for your baby. Nutrient-dense avocados are ideal for purées since they’re soft in texture and easily digestible. Just cut one in half, remove the pit and mash until it’s smooth.
Nature's Candy
Eating sweet, seasonal, local fruit can help in your battle against refined sugar treats. Buy kiwi, mangos and other tropical fruits to encourage your child to expand her horizons. For a refreshing snack, make smoothies with a juicer and freeze left overs in trays for fresh fruit pops.
Multicultural Cuisine
Toddlers have no preconceived ideas about what they like and dislike, so they’re open to new culinary experiences. By offering international foods to little ones, you’ll help them develop a more mature palate, leading to a healthier relationship with food as they grow.
Just a Taste
Here’s how to get your toddler to try new foods.
Be creative. If you cut sandwiches in cool shapes (think cookie cutters) or serve veggies in interesting ways (form a teepee with zucchini sticks), your child may be more willing to take a bite.
Avoid pressuring. Let your child eat as little or as much as he wants at each meal.
Ditch the distractions. Eat meals together without newspapers, books or TV.
Focus on the flavor. Yes, babies care about taste. Play around with recipes to see what your child likes, and don’t be afraid to introduce him to the many spices of life.
