Kids: 2 Daughters, 24 & 20, Son, 17
Ellen Alemany is one of the most powerful women in banking as head of Citizens Financial Group, Inc., a subsidiary of The Royal Bank of Scotland Group, one of the world’s largest banks by assets. Alemany also is a member of RBS Group’s nine-member global Executive Committee. She is presently the only woman CEO of a top ten bank in the U.S. Alemany’s business career had humble beginnings—her first job was at her father’s Bronx, New York liquor store. She got her MBA at night at Fordham University while working simultaneously at IBM. Alemany went on to work at Chase Manhattan Bank and Citibank before assuming her current role. Alemany runs an organization which employees 27,000 people, and generated $8.9 billion in revenues and held a total of $150 billion in deposits last year.
Despite a taxing position Alemany’s role as mom has always been paramount. Her eldest daughter is severely handicapped, which has impacted Alemany’s decision to stay rooted in New York City. She sits on the board of her handicapped daughter’s school and the March of Dimes.
