A stuffed animal might look cute on top of your baby’s dresser, and the remote control might be safe from drool on top of the TV, but think again before placing these things above your child’s reach. If she decides to climb up and grab these attractive items, she could end up seriously hurt. Every day, about 40 young kids are rushed to the emergency room with injuries from a heavy piece of furniture falling on them, according to data from a recent study by the Center for injury research and policy of the research Center at nationwide Children’s hospital. To keep your little climber safe, place your TV on a low, wide base; affix large dressers and bookshelves to the wall using safety straps, L-brackets or other attachment devices; and place heavy items on the lower shelves of bookcases or entertainment centers.
