Problem: With a house, a husband, a band of kids and a full-time-plus career, you need all the help you can get when it comes to cleaning.

Solution: Find easy but effective ways from a woman who raised (gasp!) nine children—Mrs. Myers. The line of cleaning products that her daughter named after her is just the tip of the mop. Her new book, Mrs. Myer’s Clean Home: Non-nonsense Advice That Will Inspire You to Clean Like the Dickens, offers tons of did-you-know solutions. We’re already using these: When you rearrange furniture and find indentations in your carpet, rub the marks with ice cubes. As the carpet fibers absorb the water, they’ll swell back into shape. • To clean broken glass off a hard surface floor, dab a piece of bread on top of them. It will absorb the tiny shards. Vacuum, and then wipe down the floor with a damp cloth. • Get out tough rust stain from a toilet bowl by pouring in a can of cola and letting it sit overnight. The soda will disintegrate the rust so you can wipe the bowl clean with a toilet brush.
