Problem: The shaky state of the economy has most people feeling uneasy. But when you are stressed you eat. And with the latest barrage of bad news about bailouts and bankruptcies, you’re up to a pint of ice cream a day.

Solution:
It’s OK to seek comfort in food, as long as it’s the right food, says Lisa Drayer, M.A., R.D., author of The Beauty Diet. In fact some feel-good foods can actually lower stress, boost energy levels and enhance your looks. Start your day with a bowl of oatmeal; whole grain carbohydrates like this help your body produce serotonin, a mood enhancer responsible for calm, relaxed feelings.  At lunch, have a stuffed sweet potato. Also a starchy food, it boosts serotonin levels plus it’s packed with skin-saving beta-carotene (it helps protect skin from UV rays.) At dinner, dine on wild salmon, which is rich in Omega-3 fatty acids. These essential acids help boost brain performance and memory while protecting against depression. Before bed, drink a cup of green tea to get a dose of theanine, an amino acid that promotes stress-free feelings.
