Problem: There’s not enough room in your closet for clothes of all seasons so it’s time to pack away the winter wardrobe. But you don’t want to find that your favorite white sweater has yellowed or that your designer wool skirt has moth holes. Plus, you just can’t justify a massive dry cleaning bill right now.

Solution: Save money on dry cleaning by taking care of your washables yourself, says What Not To Wear c-host Clinton Kelly. He hand washes everything from cashmere to silk. Just soak in cool water with a color-safe stain remover such as OxiClean. Add a dash of your favorite hair conditioner (to keep fibers soft), soak and then rinse in clean water. Squeeze (never ring) excess water. Remove even more water by rolling the clothing in a clean white towel, let it air dry and store in an air-tight container such as space-saving vacuum storage bags.
