Why We Love Her
If the economy has you thinking about switching careers, you might want to give Kimberley a call. at the age of 39, she’s had more careers than most of us have in a lifetime. She started out in public service with the State Department''s Bureau of International Narcotics and later served on the vice president’s national security staff. She changed gears and went to work on Wall Street, putting in 60-hour weeks and traveling the globe—while pregnant with twin boys. Later she launched her own business as an executive coach and recruiter in Atlanta. After her third child was born, Kimberley decided to go back to the corporate world and took her current position at PricewaterhouseCoopers. All of this while balancing her children’s gymnastics, soccer and ballet classes and science fairs. she really means it when she says, “I’m at my best when I have a lot of balls in the air—work, family and community.”

Q: What’s your best advice for a new mom returning to work?

A: Children grow up fast. You may sacrifice sleep and time for yourself, but spending as much time with your children and spouse as possible is crucial. Instead of spending that extra hour in the office writing a memo or filling in expense reports, come home, spend time with the family, then finish those administrative items once everyone is in bed.

Q: What’s your biggest working mom confession?

A: My son Alex recently had to write his own version of Martin Luther King. Jr.'s “I Have A Dream Speech” for class. In his version Alex wrote, "I have a dream that grown-ups do not work and all they do is play with their children, especially freeze tag." It broke my heart. I really try to put away the laptop, cell phone and Blackberry when I get home so I have quality time with the children. After everyone is tucked in, I can return to the Blackberry and phone.

Q: What’s your best tip for keeping your home life running smoothly?

A: Outsource and organization. Each Sunday, my husband, Greg, and I sit down to discuss the week and month ahead. We want to make sure that one of us is always in town and home for dinner and homework. We also want to make sure that we have the extracurricular covered: baseball or soccer games, ballet recitals and birthday parties. A master schedule is in the kitchen with all activities for the family and our au pair to see. We also rely on others to help out. An au pair lives with us and is a huge help with the children. Also, Greg is an amazing husband and father and a great teammate. We work together to keep the wheels on track.
