
Move over, carpal tunnel. Computer-related cuts, bruises and even head injuries that resulted in trips to the ER increased by a whopping 732 percent from 1994 to 2006, according to the American Journal of Preventive Medicine. Study author Lara McKenzie, PhD, offers some home-office safety tips:
- Place your computer equipment away from the edges of desks and out of reach of young children to keep it from falling.
- Position the computer on a stable work surface.
- Anchor furniture and heavy computer components to the wall or floor.
- Install safety covers on unused electrical outlets.
- Organize and secure wires to avoid tripping on them.
