Cooler weather is great for many things—cute sweaters, a snuggle fest with the kids, roaring fires. It is not, however, great for your skin. Going from whipping winds to indoor heat can leave you feeling dry and flaky. November is National Healthy Skin Month; celebrate with this easy routine from dermatologist Doris Day, MD, author of Forget the Facelift.
- Spend no longer than ten or 15 minutes in the shower each day, and keep the water lukewarm. Hot showers pull the natural oils out of your skin.
- Wash your face with a gentle cleanser that’s fragrance-free to reduce the risk of allergy or irritation.
- Pat your skin with a towel so that it’s still damp, and then, before you leave the bathroom, apply a noncomedogenic moisturizer to lock the water in.
- At night, turn on a humidifier to keep your bedroom air moist, and rest easy knowing your skin is healthy and hydrated.
