It’s not just an old wives’ tale that cranberry juice can prevent urinary tract infections, say researchers at the University of Stirling in Scotland. They analyzed ten studies on the subject and found that cranberry juice and capsules significantly reduced the incidence of this painful infection. But the power of these tart little berries doesn’t stop there. Recent research from Tel Aviv University found that cranberries may also help ward off the flu, prevent cavities and reduce gastric ulcers in women. These same researchers are currently studying the reasons for the berry’s antiviral properties. While we wait to find out, it can’t hurt to drink two glasses of cranberry juice a day to help fend off these bacteria and viruses.
