With the help of working mom Maggie Gyllenhaal, Duracell, this month, announced their five Power-A-Smile Holiday Ambassadors, who will help bring smiles by donating toys and batteries to hospitalized children all over the country.
“I decided I really wanted to do this one because I am a mother and I feel like it's just impossible to not do what you can for sick kids,” Gyllenhaal said. “I think especially in this current [economic] climate because this huge company, Duracell, can; I think it's very important that they do [give back] and that they do it in a way that people can feel and that they do it in a way that people can see. I think that if you can do it, do it. And do it boldly and do it with aplomb.”
The Ambassadors - aged 6 to 12 years - were chosen through an online casting call by sending in photos that captured the joy of opening a toy for the first time, as well as through in-person casting calls in Philadelphia and Dallas. To kick off the campaign, the Dark Knight star and five Holiday Ambassadors hand-delivered Duracell batteries and Mattel toys to children at the Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital of New York-Presbyterian on December 3rd.
Gyllenhaal and the Holiday Ambassadors also urge families to visit www.PowerASmile.com, where they can support children's hospitals simply by sharing a smile. For each photo of a smile uploaded, Duracell will make a $1 donation to the Mattel Children's Hosptial UCLA, a provider of state-of-the-art treatment for children and a leader in the mission to improve the understanding and treatment of pediatric diseases. Uploaded photos will be featured on the Power-A-Smile website throughout the month of December.
“Our Power-A-Smile program is designed to make sure children get to experience the joy of the holidays even if a hospital stay takes them away from home,” said Bob Jacobs, marketing director at Duracell. “Maggie Gyllenhaal and our Duracell Holiday Ambassadors truly embody the spirit of the program and will help power smiles across the country.”
